Frequent Asked Questions

How many people can fit on the Rugged Westcoast Boats:

Both our vessels can comfortably hold 3 guests. But can accommodate 4. If your group is larger than 8 please call as we work with other guides in the area. We often can work together and can arrange to accommodate your needs.

Do you have bathrooms on board:

Yes both our vessels are equipped with emergency porta potty’s and have inclosed cuddys for privacy. Though one major benefit of fishing at French creek is how close the fishing grounds are. Generally we can be back to the dock in 15-20 minutes. Were normal facilities are only steps away.

Do you mix guests:

No, absolutely not. Here at Rugged West Coast. We believe in giving our guests the best experience possible. When you pay for one of our charters. You pay for our guide and the boat. Both will be reserved for you and you crew on your charter date.

Do you have accommodations:

Currently at this time we do not offer accommodations. But we do work with local Hotels and resorts in the area. So please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your stay.

Do you charge for extra people:

Just like everyone else we are not fans of hidden or extra fees.

We believe in a flat rate system. So when you pay for a charter you pay for the guide and boat. So it’s only right in our eyes that you decide if your coming alone or bringing 3 others with you.

Do I need a fishing license:

Yes all guests that want to fish will need to get their own fishing license with salmon stamp. But even if you decide not to fish. Your license will add to the total allowable catch that can be retained and brought home. So it’s always recommended everyone get there fishing license prior to the charter date. License’s can be obtained online (link) or most fishing related stores will have the means or know how of getting you your license.

Can our charter be cancelled due to weather:

Our guides are very knowledgeable about local waters, tides and weather patterns. We will check Environment Canada weather reports before heading out on your charter. Unless the predicted weather suddenly changes or is determined potentially dangerous before heading out. We may have to reschedule for another day or issue you a full refund.

If cancellation is on your behalf. All deposits are refundable up to 14 days prior to trip date. After such a time deposits are non refundable.

What should I wear:

As weather at sea can always be unpredictable. We do recommend you dress in layers including inclosed toe shoes, pants, long sleeve shirt a light jacket/rain coat and hat is always recommended along with any other wear you may seem fit. As rain, fog and cold weather are always a possibility. But with French Creek being one of the highest days per sun ratio on the island. We definitely recommend you bring the sun screen and sun glasses!

What should I bring:

It’s always a good idea to bring a camera, water, food, a waterproof bag for your belongings. Of course also a tote or cooler to keep in your vehicle to transport your catch.

What is our catch limit:

Our guides observe strict DFO regulations. These regulations change from the different species of fish, to time of year and season. Our guides will inform you when your limit has been caught and when to release undersize/ oversized fish.

Do you clean the fish:

Due to food safe restrictions and  strict DFO regulations. Our guides will be able to bleed and clean your fish for you. In some instances the heads may be removed. Filleting of the fish will be up customer.
